Bike parts help?
I had the same thing happen to one of my bikes. No, I could not find a match. Most "chainrings" as they are called, come without the chainguard ring. Only the low priced bikes have those plastic rings. 30 years ago, they were made of chromed steel, but now they are all plastic.

The high quality racing bikes don't have chainguard rings (they never did) , they expect you to be wearing shorts. The guard is to keep your pants leg from getting caught, not your shoelaces. Keep your shoelaces tied tight, because they could get wrapped around the pedal spindle, just as easily.

You can do one of three things to keep your pants from catching the teeth of the chainring:

1)Tuck the right leg of your pants into your right sock.

2)Wear shorts.

3)Get a reflective leg-band at the local bicycle shop. It attaches with velcro and holds your pants cuff so it doesn't get caught in the chain.

Finally, you might want to remove the screws that held the plastic in place. They are not needed anymore.
Reply:only very low end cranks (the part with the pedal arms and front gears) have this protector. To get the same thing, you'd probably have to replace the crank because these guards are usually built in. You can get a bike shop to install what is called a bash guard, which will serve the same purpose for you, and protect the chainring from damage.

Other than that, tuck in anything loose - shoelaces into shoe, pants into sock, etc. You can also get velcro reflective bands to keep pants away from the chainrings.
Reply:Like the other person said, it is not likely you can replace. You will want to make sure the shoes are tied tightly and with the laces tucked into the shoes some way.

I have had my children get their laces caught in the teeth and crank arms. When that happens it will either snap the laces or possibly cause a crash.

Your best way would be to double knot the laces, if that does not get them close enough you may want to just tuck them into your shoes.
