White shoes and Labor Day?

I know you CAN'T wear white shoes after Labory Day (well you can, but soceity says you can't). Anyway, my question is, why? Labor Day is not to honor the dead, that's Memorial Day. So what's with the nix on white shoes part after Labor Day?


And when after Labor Day can I start to wear my white shoes again?

i still am hung up on this even tho i know that it is now acceptable. it doesn't really have anything specifically to do with the holiday, labor day is just the 'unofficial' start to fall. if you want to adhere to the old rules, you can wear white shoes again after easter.
