I am looking to open an athletic shoe store. Any tips?

I heard Nike requires stores to sell 100k per year of shoes. Other companies have not indicated such strict requirements. I live in a market that probably couldn't support selling 100k of just Nike alone, and still carry other brands. I have an athletic background and a sports medicine background so service will be a huge part of our business. Getting started could be the biggest hurdle.

Start-Up Expenses

How much does it cost to start a shoe retail store? There are no hard and fast rules in setting the price tag of a shoe store business. Your start-ups costs will be influenced by a number of factors, including:

-Size and design of the store

-Location

-Target market

-Inventory selection

-Level of marketing

Given the factors above, the price tag can be anywhere from $20,000 to as much as several hundred thousand dollars!

Reply:u should put in some kswiss shoes
Reply:You have to have "sole" and not be a "heel". Don't "string" people along and don't run your "tongue" all the time and you will have a good "fit". Good luck.
Reply:I have one tip you may not like. Sell shoes aimed at whites and other colors than blacks. Not a racist here but go into a shoe store and they all target blacks just like cigarette companies target youths. Maybe I would like a shoe Michael Jorden didnt win a game in.
Reply:Shouldn't be hard to sell Nike. Make sure you sell more than shoes. Apparel. I bought this cool Nike back pack.
Reply:If there is no requirement for other brands, you can try the alternataive brands for a year or so and see how your business is doing. After that period, you can decide if you want to carry Nike.
